Steel +35.1 TWh

Sweden’s steel and metal industries are expected to increase their consumption of electricity the most of any sector. Our survey forecasts a roughly five-fold increase in electricity use by 2030, from 7.5 to 40.6 TWh a year.

The bulk of this increase is likely to come from new plants for the production of sponge iron and fossil-free steel, in which hydrogen and new technologies replace fossil coal in the reduction of iron ore.
